My research focuses on Church-State relations in the Late-Antique Roman Empire, as reflected in ecclesiastical historiography of the fifth to seventh centuries. I examine the Greek, Latin and Syriac historiographical sources that concern significant moments in Church-State relations of the fourth and fifth centuries in the Western Empire. These are the earliest historiographical depictions of the so-called "triumph" of the Church within the Roman Empire. A re-examination of these narratives may deepen and modify our perception of the events now regarded as turning points in Church-State relations in the Later Empire. My advisors are Dr. David Satran and Dr. Yonatan Moss.
